The Divide in the Western World

David Selbourne of Times online demonstrates the uncanny illogic of someone attempting to appear neutral about the war that al Qaeda has declared against the west. His opening statement is a completely nonsensical statement, he says:

LET US SUPPOSE, for the sake of argument, that the war declared by al-Qaeda and other Islamists is under way. Let us further suppose that thousands of “terrorist” attacks carried out in Islam’s name during the past decades form part of this war; and that conflicts that have spread to 50 countries and more, taking the lives of millions — including in inter-Muslim blood-shedding — are the outcome of what Osama bin Laden has called “conducting jihad for the sake of Allah”.

Okay David if as you say al-Qaeda has declared war on the west then why would we have to suppose for sake of argument that said war is under way? (click on title Western world)

Unless of course you are speaking to biased readers who have predetermined that world-wide acts of Islamic terrorism that have continued to this day since Osama bin Laden declared Jihad (war) against the west in 1998 are not related to bin Laden’s call for war against the west but just simply random incidental occurrences.

What a completely foolish way to start an argument. Think about it, if there is no war then the premise of your whole article is useless. If there really is no Islamist threat (war) then to list ten reasons why the west can’t defeat it is a complete waste of time.

But if there was any doubt that Islam’s war against the west is under way then the last statement in your article should be enough to convince even the most strident of Islamic war deniers;

But as the Saudi “scholar” Suleiman al-Omar declared in June 2004: “Islam is advancing according to a steady plan. America will be destroyed.” As things stand, given the ten factors set out here, he is more likely to be proved right than wrong.

Who but the most ignorant can still deny the threat that the western world faces from the advancement of Islam?

Now David as to your ten factors, you first identify a division in the west apparently there are those who don’t believe that this is even a war in the first place. Second, David you show that the west doesn’t understand the threat of world-wide Islam. Third David you isolate the United States as if Europe is not apart of the west that Islam has sworn to destroy.

Reasons 4 through 10 are more of the same blame America while disassociating any European blame.

Unfortunately David the west’s weaken is what you identify in factor number six the so called western world has abandoned America and left her to twist in the wind while secretly hoping for America’s defeat it is this sentiment that is held by European and American liberals alike.

These are the readers who disbelieve that there is an Islamic war presently being waged against the west and these are the so called non-Muslims who retard any effort against the war against terrorism.

If your conclusions are correct David and the west can not defeat the advancement of Islam then global warming is not so important now is it!
